Reception Refreshments

There are a couple of options when it comes to food at the reception. Generally you choose between a sit down dinner, buffet, cocktail party, or a barbecue.
The first thing to keep in mind is that a sit down dinner does take time. It also takes space. You need to remember that there needs to be a seat for every single person. When you have sit down meal you have to choose a specific meal instead of having a variety of options.

Buffets are good if you are wanting to offer several different types of foods. One thing to remember is that when you have a buffet, long lines can form. Make sure you are prepared for this and if you have a large number of guests, set up two buffets. No one likes waiting in long lines.

A cocktail party is a great option for couples who are on a stricter budget. Typically the couple will serve hors d'oeuvres and more snack type options. These type of receptions are more laid back and they do not have a strict order to things.

Some couples will opt to have a barbecue type reception. If you have a smaller guests list that is full of close friends and family members, this could be a great option for you. You can choose to have friends grill out, or you can hire a catering company.

Each option has their positives and negatives. You need to keep in mind what fits you best and what you can afford.
